I've been two full weeks in Ouvéa, in the house of Pierre Kaouma, Chez Rachel, Fayaoue, Ouvéa 45 72 87 in a beautiful traditional "case". |

| The island is an absolute, total wonder! It's curled around a huge lagoon and its colours and landscapes are of the stuff you cry about in the long, gray winter days at home. | L'isola è una meraviglia assoluta, totale! Abbraccia una gigantesca laguna e i suoi colori e panorami sono qualcosa di cui piangere nei lunghi, grigi giorni invernali, a casa. |

| In two weeks I dived with Pierre and with Pascal, his young friend, most of the days, whenever the weather and the wind were good. | In due settimane sono andato a pescare con Pierre e con Pascal, il suo giovane amico, la maggior parte dei giorni, ogni volta che il tempo e il vento lo permettevano. |

Most of the dives where in the Pleyades du Sud, sometimes Pleyades du nord, and the fabled Passe de Anemata, between them. I've been also once in the far far away and legendary Atoll the Beautemp-Beauprés. |
La maggior parte delle immersioni erano nelle Pleiadi del Sud, qualche volta nelle Pleiadi del Nord e nella favolosa Passe di Anemata tra di loro. Sono stato perfino, una volta, nel leggendario e lontanissimo Atollo di Beautemp-Beauprés. |

What I really was searching to catch here was a beautiful Dogtooth Tuna (Gymnosarda unicolor). And I tried! But the literally dozens of sharks under our fins were almost always faster than me. And not only the usual Grey Shark but also the big C. Albimarginatus and the occasional Tiger Shark. Here, if you do NOT stone immediately a fish, your probabilities to catch it are almost zero. And you all know, spearfishers around the world, how easy it is to stone a tuna...
Obviously, when I was with my camera, the Tuna were friendly. The following, I know it does not seems, but it's a 35+ kg tuna! |
Ciò che stavo davvero cercando di prendere qui era un bel Tonno a Denti di Cane (Gymnosarda unicolor). E tentare ho tentato. Ma le letteralmente dozzine di squali sotto le nostre pinne erano quasi invariabilmente più veloci di me. E non solo il solito Squalo Grigio, ma anche il grande C. Albimarginatus e ogni tanto lo Squalo Tigre. Qui, se non si uccide immediatamente un pesce, le probabilità di prenderlo sono quasi zero. E tutti voi, pescatori subacquei in giro per il mondo, sapete quanto facile sia il farlo con un tonno...
Ovviamente, quando ero giù con la macchina fotografica, i tonni erano amichevoli. La foto seguente, lo so che può non sembrare, ma è di un tonno di più di 35 kg! |

All in all were wonderful days, absolutely wondrous, packed with adventures, magnificent sea creatures and marvellous persons. Two weeks full of memories to last for years in the future! |
Tutto sommato sono stati giorni meravigliosi, assolutamente unici, riempiti di avventure, spettacolose creature marine e persone incredibili. Due settimane piene di memorie da durare anni nel futuro. |

The only real setback was that, the last day, a big Tuna wrenched from my hands the line and managed to tangle the spear and the slip-tip of my Tuna Gun in a coral rock in 45 m of waters. Not even the deep-diving Pierre could handle its recovery. We even tried to recover it with a professional diving with bottles but he was not able to find the rock in the deep sand slope plunging to over 70 m. Alas, by now it’s a solid part of the reef. |
L'unico reale problema è stato che, nell'ultimo giorno, un grande Tonno mi ha strappato dalle mani la sagola ed è riuscito ad incastrare asta e slip-tip del mio Tuna Gun in una roccia corallina in 45 metri d'acqua. Nemmeno Pierre con le sue abilità d'immersione profonda è riuscito a recuperarla. Abbiamo perfino tentato di recuperarla con un'immersione fatta da un professionista con le bombole ma non è stato in grado di trovare la roccia, nella profonda discesa sabbiosa che precipita ad oltre 70 metri. Ahimè, ora è parte integrante del reef. |
