Atlantic Sailfish determination - Istiophorus albicans

The Sailfish it’s NOT to be confused with the Marlin.

The Sailfish is easily recognized by its huge dorsal fin, giving him its peculiar name. The Marlins have a lot smaller triangular dorsal fin.

They belong to the same scientific family, Istiophoridae but they belong to different Genus.

Both the Sailfish share the same Genus, Istiophorus with two different species.

The Marlins instead have two different Genus, Makaira and Tetrapturus, Makaira with three species and Tetrapturus with six species.

Il Pesce Vela NON deve essere confuso con il Marlin.

Il Pesce Vela è facilmente riconoscibile per la sua enrome pinna dorsale che gli ha dato il suo peculiare nome.

I Marlin invece hanno una pinna triangolare molto più piccola.

Appartengono alla stessa famiglia scientifica, Istiophoridae ma appartengono a due Generi diversi.

Entrambi i Pesci Vela condividono lo stesso Genere, Istiophorus, con due specie diverse.

I Marlin invece hanno due differenti Generi, Makaira e Tetrapturus, Makaira con tre specie e Tetrapturus con sei specie.
